What are your DTP prices?
Please understand, that we cannot just publish our prices on the net as each and every DTP project is different, our prices vary as well. Our prices for DTP are based on the original file format, the professionalism with which the original file has been layouted, the specific DTP requirements and the file format that you want us to deliver. For a reliable quotation, please send us the original file and all your requirements, so we can estimate our working hours and send you a quotation.

What is your word price?
Please understand, that we cannot just publish our prices on the net as each and every translation project is different, our prices vary as well. Our prices for translation are based on the contents, subject and degree of difficulty of the source text. For a reliable quotation, please send us the original file in an open format, so we can process it with Transit and calculate the correct word count. Once you?ve sent us the original file, we will calculate the words to be translated and estimate the working hours should there be any additional service required. We will then send you a quotation.

What do you do to assure quality?
Quality Control at STAR consists of two phases:

? Preventive Quality Control
? Corrective Quality Control

Under preventive quality control, we understand the requirements for:
? Careful selection of specialists who have both the necessary technical background and language skills and who translate exclusively into their mother tongue;
? Continuous training both in the required technology and in the use of the latest software technologies (translation and DTP software and various other tools);
? Ensuring that our translators have access to collections of reference documents;
? Terminology management and automated terminology database use;
? Checking of incoming materials and data, and undertaking corrective measures on the source data if required;
? Task analysis and project planning
? Careful project preparation before actually starting the primary translation task

These preventive quality measures are systematically observed at STAR.

Under corrective quality control, we understand the requirement for:
A system of procedures to check quality systematically before delivery to the customer (proof-reading); Development of machine-aided QA tools and the integration of such tools in standard procedures; such tools are able to isolate and rectify a variety of discrepancies such as:
? Missing translations
? Incorrect numerical data translation
? Misspelling ? Inconsistent terminology usage

The STAR Translation Workflow Automation Solution supports these quality checks.

How do you work?
1. Assumption:
A request for translations is received from a customer including a detailed list of instructions and a copy of the source data files.

? For each new customer a Project Manager is assigned. All incoming projects are forwarded to this Project Manager who begins the planning, co-ordination and supervision of the project. ? All incoming materials are checked and verified for accuracy and completeness. If anything is missing or lacking, the Project Manager contacts the client for more information or new files.
? Files are processed with STAR Transit which leverages the customer?s Translation Memory referencing a customer-endorsed glossary in TermStar. Files are transferred electronically to the appropriate translation team or individual contractor along with detailed instructions, reference materials, and hard copies of the originals.
? The translator receives the Transit files and TermStar dictionary and begins translation. Once translated, files are proof-read by the translator on a printout hard copy.
? Once completed, the files are returned electronically to the Project Manager. The Transit language files are verified and QA?d to insure the integrity of the content and codes within the files.
? Once verified, the files are exported to their original format.
? The files are then processed in their original format with the appropriate software to restore DTP formatting, dialogue box resizing, hotlinks, graphics, etc.
? When the files are completed, they are proof-read again by another translator in their original format. Any changes are sent back to the original translator for incorporation into the Transit language files and are incorporated into the final formatted files.
 ? Any new terminology is extracted and added to the TermStar database. Furthermore, the Transit language pairs are used to update the customer?s Translation Memory so that the new data is available for the next translation project.
? A final pre-delivery check is performed on all files and the final versions are delivered to the client.

2. Definition of a Translation Process with New Customers For a long-term partnership with new customers STAR recommends a 3- to 4-week orientation period prior to accepting first orders. This orientation period will be used to
? assign and brief an account manager who will be responsible for managing this customer?s translation projects.
? testing data, preparing conversion/importing scripts and importing the customer?s terminology database into TermStar (or create new database), thereby assuring automated terminology retrieval during translation.
? joint assessment with customer of feasibility and desirability of post-aligning certain volumes of legacy data with the translation memory, so that post-aligned text can be leveraged (reused) from the onset.
? set up a typical process definition and select and brief the translators, DTP production workers and engineers who are appointed to work on the customer?s manuals.
? jointly set up and test data transmission with the customer.

How to get a quote?
1. Send us the source file and tell us what service you wish to purchase: translation from what language into what language, layout, printing etc.

2. We will process the file in Transit and calculate the total word count

3. We will check the quality of the layout and estimate working hours for DTP and other additional service that might be required

4. We will send you a quotation

5. By signing the quotation and faxing it back to us you formally give us the order to proceed

Please do not send us a pdf file as we cannot process this format easily. If you send us a file in pdf format, we would have to copy/paste the whole contents into a word document in order to be able to process it with Transit. This will ultimately result in unnecessary extra working hours for us and costs for you.
Once you?ve sent us the original file, we will calculate the words to be translated and estimate the working hours should there be any additional service required. We will then send you a quotation.
By signing the quotation and faxing it back to us, the order is given and we will start the translation of your file.

Can you work with QuarkExpress files?
Yes, we can easily handle QXP files.

However this is what you should know:
QuarkXPress (QXP). QXP is still widely used in the advertising and marketing industries for the production of catalogues, brochures, flyers and the like. We can translate and lay-out QXP documents in Chinese, i.e. in Taiwan and in Mainland China, the Transit XGate works well. But we have to use localized (Chinese) QXP for Mac.
The highest Chinese localized QXP version available is v4.01. In the West, QXP is already available as version 6, with wonderful new functionality like enhanced table functions; something Quark users have been waiting for for years.
As it goes with software, higher versions are not compatible with older, lower versions, and QXP is no exception. QXP 6 files can not be opened on QXP 4. This means that QXP documents meant for a Chinese market must be created with QXP 4 or lower, e.g. v3.3, or they must be saved as 4.01 or lower. All the advantages of the enhanced QXP 6 functionality thus is lost, in short: no extended table function in QXP for Chinese.

In order to treat QXP documents in Chinese successfully, the following requirements must be fulfilled:

1. The original must be a QXP for Mac document, v4.01 or lower
2. The document must be saved as a 'single-language' file
3. OS X should not be used
4. Documents and Fonts should be compressed (*.sit) on Mac, e.g. with Stuff-It before sent out into the world
Fonts will arrive with zero lengths if not sitted. Another cause for delays. The version problem is bad news for customers building their workflows on QXP 6. As service providers we do hate to disappoint our customers but in this case there is nothing we can do about the Chinese software version.
